Description
Japanese Forest Grass is an ornamental grass native to moist mountain and woodland areas in central Japan that thrives in part to heavy shade. The slender, bamboo-like leaves form a softly cascading mound that sways in the slightest breeze, providing a graceful movement and an elegant look in the garden. The foliage of Beni Kaze Japanese Forest Grass is bright green in spring and summer, but develops red and gold shades when cooler temperatures arrive later in the season. At 12 to 18 inches tall and 3 feet wide, Beni Kaze is a glowing accent in small garden spaces and containers and stunning in groupings and mass plantings where space allows. It looks right at home in the shade garden and around garden ponds, streams, and other bodies of water.

Growing to around 12 to 18 inches tall and slowly spreading up to 3 feet wide,Beni Kaze Japanese Forest Grass can be grown in garden beds or containers. It is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces or as a border, grouping, or mass planting where space allows. It's lovely around shady patios, porches, and other outdoor sitting and living spaces. It is also lovely as a solo or mixed with other plants in pots, planters, and other containers, and looks especially nice around garden ponds. It is a fine addition to ornamental grass gardens, red theme gardens, rain gardens, Asian gardens, shade gardens, and rock gardens.

Morning and evening sun are fine, but avoid direct afternoon sun as it can scorch the leaves. Prune before new growth begins to emerge in late winter or very early spring. At this time, cut plants back to just above the ground.
