Yucca desmetiana 'Blue Boy' or Yucca aloifolia 'Purpurea'

A hybrid of Yucca desmetiana that does not exist in the wild, this rare beauty delivers exciting color and outstanding texture year round in the garden. Its soft, arching, smooth leaves start a blue-grey maturing to a dramatic smoky purple color. Over time it grows maybe 5 to 6 feet tall by 3 to 5 feet wide in a barrel form and may develop multiple stems. What's more, clusters of pendulous, very pretty translucent white flowers on stout stems rise above the foliage in mid summer. Highly adaptable, Blue Boy thrives in a range of environments from hot and humid or dry climates. We've heard it even does okay in the Pacific Northwest. That said, we're not really sure about the plants threshold for low temperatures. We know it has survived over several winters with low temperatures around 20 to 25 degrees here in north-central Georgia USDA Zone 8a, but not sure if it will survive in 7a or further north. Excellent for garden beds and containers, which can be brought indoors during the winter in cold climates. This is one special gem you want to find just the right place for in your garden!
