Description

A very unique Catmint, 'Blue Prelude' features the largest flower clusters of any Nepeta we've grown. The periwinkle-blue flowers appear all the way up and down the flowering stems beginning in late spring continuing through late summer. The plant itself has a more upright habit that will reach its mature height of 3 feet tall and nearly as wide in only 2 years. Its stems are clothed in attractive minty green leaves that repel bothersome insect pests, but the flowers attract the butterflies and beneficial pollinators as well as hummingbirds. Its aromatic foliage also attracts cats, hence the name. That said, none of our cats have ever bothered the plant, but they do like to nap beside it. Deer and rabbits turn their nose up to it. Long lived and easy to care for, Blue Prelude is a fine choice for sunny perennial and herb gardens, in containers, and around patios and other outdoor living spaces where the pretty flowers, and butterflies and hummingbirds feeding on them, can be enjoyed from up close.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 30 to 36 inches tall and 24 to 30 inches wide, the Blue Prelude Catmint is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces, in containers, or in groupings or as a border or hedge in gardens beds and along paths and walkways. Excellent around patios and other outdoors living spaces where the fragrance, the pretty flowers, and the butterflies and hummingbirds it attracts can be enjoyed from close up. A natural choice for herb gardens and a fine addition to perennials gardens, cottage gardens, butterfly and hummingbird gardens, beneficial pollinator gardens, coastal areas, fragrance gardens, blue theme gardens and rock gardens.

Growing Preferences

The Blue Prelude Catmint is easy to grow in most any somewhat loose and moist to somewhat dry soil of average fertility and full to mostly sun. Plants will tolerate some shade but foliage won't be as dense. We suggest at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. It will tolerate dry periods, but flowers best with a moist soil. Does not like constantly soggy or wet soil.

Plant was boxed perfectly and it some how survived the common carrier staff. Interesting that with all the caution labels some might be read and followed. Otherwise we are happy with this addition to our garden and it is now quite healthy.----------------------------------------------------We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the awesome review! :) Beth Steele | WBG
I ordered seven of these plants, three from Wilson Brothers. The difference in the two orders was revealed in the packing. Wilson Brothers has it down to a science, and plants arrived like I had just picked them up from the nursery myself. The other supplier’s order arrived looking like the plants had been fighting in the box….very poorly packaged. So if you do order plants online, know that Wilson Brothers will send you healthy plants in great shape and ready to plant, making your project look good immediately. Sadly, my other four plants are a little embarrassed to be planted beside them :(-------------------------------------------Hopefully the others will catch up. Thanks for the kind words and awesome review! We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy them for years to come! :) Beth Steele | WBG
The plant arrived in very good condition compared to other plants I've gotten. I have it in a container right now and it's growing really nicely. It's a memorial plant for one of my cats ashes. The other one I had died. I had to get a replacement and this was it. Will definitely shop from Wilson Brothers again.---------------------------------------------------We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come!
