Special Attributes

A very cute little creeping evergreen plant smothered with baby-blue star-shaped flowers in spring and then off and on throughout the season, Blue Star Creeper is one you'll find growing in many sites throughout our gardens. Because it handles moderate foot traffic and consistently moist soil, we have it growing between stepping stones and pavers and as a lawn substitute. The 1-inch high plants with small, round, blue-green leaves spread by underground rhizomes so there's no worry about the foliage covering stepping stones or pavers - no need for edging. We also use it as an underplanting for roses, shrubs, small trees such as Japanese maples, and as a soil cover in container gardens-even in pots situated in the garden pond! Just be sure to keep the tops of plants above the water surface. Needless to say, Blue Star Creeper is an indispensable plant in the Wilson Bros Gardens!

Landscape & Garden Uses

A dainty little groundcover growing 1 inch or less in height and tolerating moderate foot traffic, Blue Star Creeper is perfect for use to fill the gaps between stepping stones and pavers, as a groundcover or underplanting for shrubs, roses, perennials and small trees, such as Japanese maples, or as a soil cover in container gardens situated above ground or in the margins of a garden pond. Excellent for bulb gardens where plants such as tulips and daffodils will pop right through in spring. A fine addition to blue themed gardens, Asian gardens, and water gardens.

When planting in narrow spaces between stepping stones or pavers you can divide the plant into parts that will fit the gaps.

Suggested Spacing:  12 to 18 inches apart for mass planting;  6-12 inches to fill gaps between stepping stones or pavers

Cultural Preferences

Blue Star Creeper is very easy to grow in consistently moist to wet soils and full sun to part shade. In full sun it needs more moisture. With some shade in the afternoon it will tolerate dry periods. It performs best and will fill a space faster when soil is not allowed to completely dry out.

Plant Long & Prosper!
