It forms a 3 to 4-foot tall fountain of deep purple-black fern-like leaves that stands out remarkably well against other plants in the garden. From late summer into fall, tall stems rise up to 2 feet above the foliage, topped with elongated bottlebrush-like racemes of wonderfully fragrant white flowers the late-season butterflies and hummingbirds will appreciate.
