We have Flutterby Blue Heaven growing in both garden beds and pots in our landscape. In the ground it's 3 foot height with an equal or slightly wider spread, making it an ideal choice for smaller garden spaces, where larger growing butterfly bush won't fit. In containers it doesn't grow quite as large; maybe 2 feet tall by 2 feet wide or so. That said, we'd recommend a larger pot of at least 15 inches or more in diameter. Ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or massed in landscape borders, flowering shrub borders and perennial gardens. A natural choice for butterfly and hummingbird gardens, Xeriscape gardens (low water needs, and blue-themed color gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  2.5 to 3 feet apart for solid hedges or mass plantings; 6 to 7 feet apart or more for space between plants

Note:  For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 5a, where this Butterfly Bush variety is not reliably winter hardy, you'll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.

Flutterby Blue Heaven Butterfly Bush is exceptionally easy to grow. It thrives in full to mostly sun and isn't too picky about soil type, provided the soil is well-drained and of average fertility. At least 6 hours of direct sun per day is recommended for best flowering. As with so many other plants, constantly soggy or wet soils can cause problems with the roots.
