Description

A treat for you and the butterflies too, Cinderella Swamp Milkweed is a super-hardy and easy-to-grow North American native perennial that can be grown and enjoyed by gardeners in USDA Zones 3 to 9b, which covers most of the country! A vital host plant for Monarch butterflies that provides essential food and habitat for both the growing caterpillars and adult butterflies, this beauty features abundant 2-inch clusters of vanilla-scented flowers with deep rose pink petals with white centers from mid to late summer. With a tidier habit, Cinderella is perfect for smaller garden spaces and performs well well in low spots and moist but well drained to moisture retentive soils.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 24 to 36 inches tall and 12 to 36 inches wide, Swamp Milkweed is ideal for use as an accent, in grouping or mass plantings, or as a border along paths and walkways and perennial borders. It is ideal for use in moist areas of the landscape but will also tolerate drier sites. A fine addition to butterfly gardens, bog gardens, perennial gardens, cottage gardens, and purple theme gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  24 inches apart for groupings;  5 feet or more for space between plants

Growing Preferences

Swamp Milkweed is exceptionally easy to grow and care for. It grows best in a consistently moist soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade. Too much shade and flowering will be diminished. At least 4 hours of direct sunlight per day is suggested for best flowering. Plant with the top of the root ball even with ground level. Care and maintenance are minimal. Feed in spring with an organic plant food.
