Description
More than unique, every individual Corbra Norway Spruce has its own wild, serpentine-ish character. When grown on a single stake, the sparcely-branched trunk will grow up to the top of the supporting stake, then abrubtly curve downwards, giving a cobra-like appearance. But that's not the only snake-like aspect of this tree. Snake-like extensions of growth, often reaching 2 feet in length, sweep outwards for the tree. As the tree continues to grow, long and sweeping snake-like lateral branches forming on the trunk sweep outward and then down to the ground, where they form an attractive, thick, groundhugging skirt around the base of the tree. With no support stake, the tree will have an even more wild character with multiple leaders and branches twisting and turning in different directions. One of our favorite spruces, Cobra is a most spectatular and adventurous spruce for the adventurous gardener!
Note: Though some gardeners have successfully grown this spruce in zone 8 locations of the South, if you're going to try, we suggest some filtered sun or shade during the mid afternoon hours when the sun is most intense.
Landscape & Garden Uses
The Cobra Weeping Norway Spruce is ideal for use as an eye-catching specimen in sunny landscape borders. When grown upright upright on a stake it serves as an outstanding focal point specimen in home foundation plantings. When allowed to grow natural it can grow wider so will need more room to grow. A fine addition to conifer gardens, rock gardens, Alpine gardens and Asian theme gardens.

Growing Preferences
Weeping Norway Spruce is easy to grow in a damp to moist but well-drained soil of average fertility. As with so many other conifers, constantly soggy or wet soils can be problematic; leading to root rot or other harmful plant diseases. So make sure to plant this one in well-drained soil, whether in the ground or in pots. It grows well in full sun, however the foliage of young trees may discolor some until the tree has developed a good root system. It hot climates some filtered sun or shade during the hot midafternoon hours will be appreciated. Morning to early afternoon and evening sun is okay. For best overall performance and color, 6 hours or more of direct sunlight per day is suggested. Young trees will rerquire staking for upwards growth.
