Description

A soft-textured Boxwood that will grow in sun or part shade, the Buxus sempervirens (Common Boxwood) naturally grows in a dense, pyramidal form with little if any pruning necessary, however this is the 3-ball poodle tier topiary form. Foliage is a glossy, deep green with lighter color new growth in spring.

Landscape & Gardens Uses

Growing to about 5 to 8 feet in height and 1.5 feet to 2 feet wide at the base, depending on pruning, the Common Boxwood poodle tier topiary is a perfect choice to accentuate entryways. It is also useful as a distinctive specimen or grouping in landscape borders and home foundation plantings, or to mark corners. Excellent for pots, planters and other containers. A fine addition to topiary gardens, formal gardens, English gardens, and cottage gardens.

Note:  For our customers who live and garden north of  USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 5a, where this Boxwood variety is not reliably winter hardy, you'll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.

Growing Preferences

The Common Boxwood Poodle Tier is very easy to grow and requires minimal pruning to maintain its spiral form. It will grow in a wide range of soils but prefers a moist, well-drained loam in full sun to part shade. To avoid damage to new growth that can be stimulated by pruning, cease trimming two months prior to the average first-frost date in your area.

I was worried the tree was going to be too small to accent my landscaping. I shopped around at my local nurseries and not only did they not have anything similar to what I wanted, but the topiary trees they had were outrageously priced. One tree cost the same as 2 here, even though they were shipped. The trees fit perfect at my entryway and they will never take over or block it as my prior bushes did. The poodle balls were not quite as full as the product picture, but they look very healthy and came well packed. The dirt was sealed in and the trees secure in the box. As you can see, they're not too small and they look like they were made for my landscaping. Very satisfied.------------------------------------------------------Thanks so much for the photo! They look great! We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy them for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! :) Beth Steele | WBG
