Description
 
The Robin Hill Hybrids are a wonderful group of mid to late spring flowering azaleas grown for their large funnel-shaped flowers and Satsuki Azalea-type form. With cold hardiness down -5°F, 'Congo' features loads of large and vibrant rich purple flowers with red freckles over an extended period in spring that nearly cover the dark green evergreen foliage on a dwarf spreading mound 2 to 3 feet tall and up to 5 feet wide. being a mid to late spring bloomer, the butterflies and hummingbirds will enjoy the flowers and blooming branches serve very well for cutting to create stunning indoor floral arrangements. Excellent for the landscape or bonsai.


Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing to about 2 to 3 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide, Congo Azalea is ideal for use as an accent, border, groupings, mass plantings or low hedge in partially shaded landscape or woodland borders and home foundation plantings.

Growing Preferences

The Congo Azalea is easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average or better fertility. It prefers a moist but well-drained and acidic soil that is rich in organic matter. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sun is ideal. Moderate drought tolerance when established.
