Description

A hardy Hibiscus that both northern and southern gardeners can grow outdoors year-round, 'Cookies & Cream' is a long-blooming perennial that is cold hardy as far north as USDA Zone 4a, where temperatures can drop to 30 below zero. Perfectly named, it has abundant, huge (6-7" diameter) flowers with pure white petals from early or mid-summer to early fall that contrast marvelously with the deep purple-black foliage. Forming a cloud-like mound to 3 feet tall and 4 feet wide, Cookies & Cream is a good fit for small garden spaces and containers. Not only will you enjoy this marvelous plant, the butterflies and hummingbirds will thank you for including it in your garden.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 3 feet tall and 4 feet wide, the Cookies & Cream Hibiscus is ideal for a specimen, grouping, or border hedge in a sunny landscape. Its more diminutive stature makes it a good fit for containers 16 inches or more in top diameter. that can be situated on or around patios, decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living and sitting spaces.  It is also excellent as a centerpiece or background in seasonal flower beds.  It is a fine addition to tropical-look gardens and butterfly and hummingbird gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  3 feet apart for hedge; 6 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

Hardy Hibiscus are very easy to grow. They prefer moist but well-drained soil and plenty of sunshine, though some shade is tolerated. We suggest six or more hours of sunlight daily for the best foliage color and heaviest bloom. During prolonged periods of summer drought, plants will appreciate supplemental water to bloom at their best. Maintenance is minimal, requiring just one pruning a year to prune plants back to the ground when new growth begins to emerge in spring.
