Description

A new introduction from the folks at Bloomables to add to your collection, and entice the butterflies and hummers, the 'Dapper Lavender' Butterfly Bush wows with a profusion of 5 to 6 inch long light purple flower spikes from early summer in waves until frost. The spent flower spikes are produced in such abundance that most are hidden by the new blooms, which reduces the need for deadheading. The fragrant flowers are sure to have the butterflies flocking and hummingbirds bee lining all summer long! Very nice and full-size grey green leaves on a compact, 3 to 4 feet tall and wide bush that is ideal for use in smaller garden spaces and containers.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing in a spreading mound 3 to 4 feet tall and equally wide, Dapper Lavender Butterfly Bush is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces and container or in groupings or as a colorful hedge in larger spaces. We suggest planting in a large pot at least 18 inches in diameter. A fine addition to butterfly and hummingbird gardens, purple theme gardens, perennial gardens and cottage gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  3 to 3.5 feet apart for mass plantings or solid borders;  6'+ for space between plants.

Growing Preferences

The Dapper Lavender Butterfly Bush is easy to grow in most any most but well-drained soil of average to somewhat low fertility and full to mostly sun. It prefers a moist but well-drained soil when young however is quite drought tolerant when established. At least 6 hours of direct sun per day is suggested for best flowering. As with so many other perennial plants, constantly soggy or wet soils can be problematic. No deadheading is required though you can remove spent flowers if you want to encourage quicker and heavier rebloom.
