Description

With a distinct columnar form, the Dee Runk Boxwood is an evergreen shrub that will be an exclamation point in your landscape! Dee Runk is an excellent cultivar selected and grown for its form, deep green lustrous foliage that retains its color right through winter, and its ability to thrive in a variety of site conditions. It tends to be full all the way to the ground and is suitable for planting under power lines. An excellent choice for narrow hedges and screens to 10 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 8 to 10 feet tall and 2 feet wide in a naturally upright habit and narrow form with no pruning, the Dee Runk Boxwood is ideal for use as a vertical exclamation point anywhere in the sunny to partially shaded landscape. Great for those narrow spots in home foundation plants planted in the ground or in well-draining pots. Also ideal as a narrow hedge where space is limited. A fine addition to formal gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  18 inches apart for solid hedges;  4 feet or more apart for space between plants

Note:  For our customers who live and garden north of  USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 6a, where this Boxwood variety is not reliably winter hardy, you'll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.

Growing Preferences

The Dee Runk Boxwood is exceptionally easy to grow when planted right and in the right spot. It adapts to most soil types, preferring a moist but well drained soil of average fertility. As with so many other plants, a constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic. It prefers mostly sun but will tolerate some shade. In our gardens, we've found it to have exceptional drought, heat, disease and pest resistance. Responds well to pruning.
