Description
Among the easiest and lowest maintenance plants to grow, Hen-and Chicks is a hardy and long-lived perennial succulent plant that thrives in hot and dry conditions. Desert Bloom Hen and Chicks features a rosette (the hen) of fleshy and pointed grey-green leaves flushed in pink surrounded by little "chicks" that eventually become hens to form a colony, or should we say "flock." Mature leaves turn deeper shades of pink and purple. Pink flowers atop short stems appear in summer. Excellent in containers or garden beds with well-drained soil.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 4 to 6 inches tall and spreading to 10 or more inches wide, the Desert Bloom Hen and Chicks is ideal for use as an accent or groupings in rock gardens or as a solo or accent in container gardens. Very nice around rocks and boulders. A fine addition to rock gardens and succulent gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 10 inches apart for groupings
Growing Preferences
Exceptionally easy to grow and low maintenance, Hen and Chicks like life on the hot, dry and sunny side. Very well-drained soil is a must. Wet soils are a killer. We suggest 6 or more hours of sunlight per day.
