Description
An exceptionally beautiful and sophisticated English shrub rose with loads of sensory appeal and an antique look and feel, 'Emily Bronte' features abundant, distinctively flat, exquisite blooms with each having over 100 petals in a soft apricot-pink surrounding delicate, deep-set stamens and a glowing yellow center that add an alluring touch to each flower. The stunning blooms exude a strong Tea scent becoming more Old Rose with delightful hints of lemon and grapefruit. Very hardy, handling cold and heat and humidity in USDA Zones 5 through 11. A strong and healthy grower, Emily Bronte forms an upright bushy shrub to 4 feet tall and equally as wide, making her a good fit for small garden spaces and containers that can be situated on or around patios and other outdoor sitting areas where the pretty flowers and wonderful fragrance can be enjoyed from close up. Stunning blooms and strong fragrance make Emily Bronte an alluring standout in the garden.
This rose was named after Emily Bronte to celebrate the bicentenary of the novelist’s birth.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 4 feet tall and equally as wide, the Emily Bronte English Shrub Rose is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings or as a hedge in sunny to partially shaded borders. Her smaller stature makes for a good fit in containers that can be situated on or around patios, decks and other outdoor sitting and living spaces. A fine addition to cottage gardens, white or pink theme gardens, cutting gardens, antique and old-fashioned gardens, and fragrance and sensory gardens.
Growing Preferences
The Emily Bronte English Shrub Rose is easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average or above average fertility and full to mostly sun for the best flowering. That said, some filtered sun during the midafternoon hours is fine. As with all other roses, morning sun is a must to dry dew from the leaves. Flowering will be best if the plant receives at least 5 hours of direct sun during the day.
