Description

If you've always wanted a panicle Hydrangea (pee gee type) but haven't had the space to accommodate a large shrub, meet Fire Light Tidbit, the smallest growing we've ever seen. This diminutive little beauty reaches only 3 feet tall and wide when all grown up, making it a perfect fit for small garden spaces and containers or as a low border or grouping where space allows. What's more, it's an extremely heavy bloomer, showcasing large, mophead-like flower clusters that nearly cover the foliage and change colors over a long bloom period throughout the summer. The flowers open white, gradually transitioning to pink and finally to a deeper pomegranate-pink exhibiting red tones. The flowers are excellent for cutting and use fresh or dried for display in a vase or floral arrangement.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 2 to 3 feet tall and 3 feet wide, the Firelight Tidbit Hydrangea is ideal for a colorful accent in smaller garden spaces and containers or as a low border or grouping where space allows. It is a fine addition to mixed flowering shrub borders, Hydrangea gardens, pink theme gardens, cut flower gardens, and cottage gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  2.5 to 3 feet apart for solid borders or groupings; 5 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

Fire Light Tidbit Hydrangea is very easy to grow in average, moist, well-drained soil and full sun to part shade. In the deep South, it might appreciate shade or filtered sun during the afternoon when the sunlight is most intense. For best flowering, provide at least 5 hours of sun a day. Note:  Fire Light is a Hydrangea paniculata species that produces flowers from buds formed on "new wood" (the current season's growth). So, you don't want to prune them in late spring or summer when they're preparing to bloom.
