Description

Vibrant amber and honey-colored foliage provides dynamic contrast to brighten your landscape. Bright yellow flowers appear in late spring to spark things up even more. And because it’s easy to grow, you’ll have more time to relax around the firepit with friends.

A selection of our North American native Diervilla that glows in every way, 'Firefly' is a well-behaved Bush Honeysuckle forming a low mound of bright foliage in vibrant gold and orange shades. From late spring through summer, abundant showy clusters of electric yellow trumpet-shaped flowers at the ends of the branches from mid spring to midsummer are an extra-added bonus that the butterflies and hummingbirds will surely appreciate. An easy-to-grow colorful accent in smaller garden spaces and pots or in groupings or as a border or low hedge in larger spaces.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 2 to 3 feet tall and wide, Firefly Diervilla is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces and containers or in groupings or as a colorful low hedge in larger spaces. A fine addition to cottage gardens, native plant gardens, butterfly and hummingbird gardens and golden theme gardens..

Suggested Spacing:  2.5 feet apart for solid borders;  5 feet apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

Firefly Diervilla is very adaptable easy to grow and virtually maintenance free when planted right and in the right spot. It prefers a moist but well-drained soil of average to high fertility and sun or part shade. Foliage color and flowering will benefit from more sun. We suggest 6 hours per day of sunlight. Drought tolerant when established. We give the plant a good pruning in early spring to a low mound. We've seen no serious insect or diseases problems.
