Description
A beautiful selection of Boxelder Maple, Acer negundo 'Flamingo' is adored for its variegated pinnate leaves that are pink and green in spring, transitioning to white and green in summer with flushes of pink new growth and yellow and orange shades in fall. It has greenish-yellow spring flowers followed by variegated pink and green samaras. It is a fast grower, forming an upright rounded tree 20 to 30 feet tall and 15 to 25 feet wide over time, maybe a little taller in perfect conditions. This makes it a great choice as a focal point in sunny or partially shaded landscape or woodland borders, where the dark background enhances the foliage colors. Hardy in USDA Zones 3a-9b, it is very easy to grow in most types of well-drained soil, including wet or sometimes dry conditions, and full sun to part shade, though it might appreciate some shelter from the direct mid-afternoon sun in hot summer climates.

Typically growing up to 20 to 30 feet in height and 15 to 25 feet wide, the Flamingo Boxelder Maple is ideal for a specimen in sunny or partially shaded landscape and woodland borders. It can also frame the corners of homes and other buildings or provide shade around patios and other outdoor sitting and living spaces where the pretty foliage can be viewed up close. The foliage stands out best against a dark background like a woodland border. Because it can grow in wet sites, it is excellent for planting on streambanks and around bodies of water. It is a fine addition to wildlife gardens, pink theme gardens, and sunny to partially shaded woodland borders.

Growing Preferences
The Flamingo Boxelder Maple is easy to grow in moist, well-drained soils with average fertility and full sun to part shade. In hot summer climates in USDA Zones 8 and 9, it might appreciate some filtered sun or shade during the afternoon when the sunlight is most intense. It will grow in wet soil provided the soil is well-drained, and it tolerates dry conditions when established. It responds very well to pruning so that it can be maintained at half its mature size for small garden spaces.
