Description

Well known and immensely popular in Japan, 'Fuji Waterfall' has made its way to the U.S. and is definitely one of the most elegant Hydrangeas in our gardens. In summer and reblooming in fall, the large lacecap-like flower clusters feature pure-white double ray florets that cascade like a "waterfall' against a background of very attractive lustrous and large deep green leaves. A site to behold, this one deserves a spot in every garden where it will grow. Excellent in garden beds and containers. USDA Zones 5a-9b

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 4 to 5 feet tall and equally as wide, the Fuji Waterfall Hydrangea is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings or as a colorful natural hedge in shady to partially shaded landscape borders, home foundation plantings, and perennial gardens. Also suitable for growing in somewhat large containers of 14 inches or more in diameter. A fine addition to Hydrangea gardens, white theme gardens, shade and woodland gardens, cut flower gardens and cottage gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  3 to 4 feet apart for solid hedge; 8 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

The Fuji Waterfall Hydrangea will grow in full sun to part shade in northern zones but likes morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sun in the south (Zones 7-9). Evening sun is fine. It adapts to various soil types however prefers an acidic, moist but well-drained loamy soil. Not too wet though...Hydrangea don't like constantly soggy soil. This hydrangea blooms on old wood and new growth so if the first flush of flowers are deadheaded new buds will form that open late summer into fall. USDA Zones: 5a-9b  Find Your Zone

Note: Fuji Waterfall is a reblooming Hydrangea macrophylla similar to those in the Endless Summer Series. Get tips for proper pruning time and technique in our article titled How To Prune Various Types Of Hydrangea

I found the Fuji Waterfall hydrangea captivating when I first saw its white bloom. So, I decided to order one but I had to be put on the wait list. So I indicated I was interested in getting a Fuji Waterfall hydrangea when the inventory was available, Time went by and I received a notice from Wilson Brothers that their inventory of the Fuji Waterfall hydrangea was restocked and I could order one. But wait. It was August. In the south...in the heat! Why would I entertain such a wild idea as it was very likely the plant would suffer its version of heat exhaustion. So I thought I'd wait until later in the year. On second thought, the Fuji Waterfall hydrangea could be out of inventory again when the weather got cooler so I took a chance and hoped the plant would arrive intact and not be too stressed out. While it is only 4 +/- hours from the Wilson Brothers location to our home in northern Florida, the Fuji Waterfall hydrangea arrived in perfect condition and with its soil still moist. How did this happen in August...in the south? Because of the phenomenal packing/shipping of Wilson Brothers. So what's the lesson here? If you find something you like at their website, order it. If it's out of stock, join the wait list. If it returns to stock in the summer (no matter where you are in the country) take solace in knowing Wilson Brothers will ship your plant with expert packing and care to make it to your home and garden. Plant long and prosper!------------------------------------------------Yay!!! We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy your purchase for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and wonderful review! :) Beth Steele | WBG
