Description
When it comes to attracting and feeding butterflies and hummingbirds, it doesn't get much better than butterfly bushes. The abundant, upright, 6 to 10-inch conical clusters of fragrant, nectar-rich, vibrant fuchsia flowers of the Funky Fuchsia Butterfly Bush will delight the senses and attract and feed these winged friends from spring through mid-fall. The flower clusters rise above a 6 to 8-foot tall and wide rounded mound of attractive, rich green foliage with gray undersides. As with all butterfly bushes, this one is drought tolerant when established, and deer and rabbits turn their nose up to it. Excellent in sunny flowering shrub and perennial borders or as an accent in home foundation plantings.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 6 to 8 feet tall and equally as wide, the Funky Fuchsia Butterfly Bush is ideal for use as a specimen in medium-sized garden spaces or large containers or in groupings, or as a hedge where space allows. It is an excellent accent plant in home foundation plantings. It is a fine addition to butterfly and hummingbird gardens, flowering shrub and perennial borders, and fuchsia-themed gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 5 feet apart for solid hedges; 9 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Funky Fuchsia Butterfly Bush is exceptionally easy to grow. It thrives in full to mostly sun and isn't too picky about soil type, provided the soil is well-drained and of average fertility. At least 6 hours of direct sun daily is recommended for best flowering. As with so many other plants, constantly soggy or wet soils can cause problems with the roots.
