In early spring, before its foliage emerges, its gracefully weeping branches are covered in abundant clusters of sparkling, pinkish-purple pea-like flowers. As the bloom ends, new leaves emerge in shades of dark purple to amethyst. As the season progresses, the leaves transition to handsome dark blue-green shades, with any new leaves emerging in reddish-purple. An easy-to-grow North American native flowering tree for USDA Zones 5-9, meaning it will tolerate winter low temperatures to -20F and stand up to heat and humidity in hot climates, Amethyst Cascade's smaller size makes it a good fit for smaller garden spaces or in containers that can be situated on sunny to partially shaded patios and decks or around other outdoor sitting or living spaces.
