Description

An eye-catching mutation from H. 'Georgia Peach', the Georgia Plum Heuchera features 4 seasons of amazing color. it features 7" tall by 15" wide mounds of rosy purple leaves with a pink to silver overlay and dark veins throughout the seasons. Clusters of purple-pink flowers atop 14" tall thin stems are held above mound all the way from late spring to early fall. Both butterflies and hummingbirds will thank you for planting this one! Excellent as a solo or mixed with other plants in garden beds and containers. Just be careful when planting Heuchera not to bury the base of the plant below ground level!

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing in a mound to 7 inches tall 15 inches wide, the Georgia Plum Heuchera is ideal for use as a solo or combined with other plants in garden beds or containers or as an accent or grouped or massed in garden beds and landscape borders. Will grow in full sun in the Pacific Northwest and other northern zones (4-6) but prefers afternoon shade or all-day filtered sun or shade in further south. A fine addition to Heuchera gardens, woodland gardens, rock gardens and perennial shade gardens.

In garden beds or containers, we like combining Heuchera plants with other Heuchera or Heucherella varieties, hosta lilies, perennial ferns and other part shade to shade loving plants and trees.

Suggested Spacing:  14 inches apart for mass plantings;  24 inches or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

When planted right, and in the right spot Heuchera are easy to grow.

Sun Preference:  Though Heuchera tolerate full sun in cooler zones north of USDA Zone 7 they appreciate some afternoon shade in USDA Zones 7-9. If grown in full sun, consistent moisture is very important. Scorch and general foliage decline may occur if soils are allowed to dry out for too long in full sun locations.

Soil Preferences:  Heuchera prefer a moist but well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Constantly soggy or wet soil is problematic. In the warmer climates of the southern zones plants are often evergreen, retaining nice foliage color throughout the winter season. In colder, northern zones foliage may discolor or die back over a harsh winter. Simply prune unsightly foliage away before new growth begins to emerge in late winter or early spring.
