Description
A cousin of the ever-popular Blue Rug Juniper, the Golden Carpet Juniper is much the same but with outstanding golden-yellow foliage year round. One of if not the lowest growing of all the ground hugging Juniper varieties, at 4 to 6 inches tall and spreading to 4 feet wide or more, it is ideal for use as a groundcover in sunny landscape borders and on slopes, or to spill over walls. Also excellent as an underplanting and around small trees such as Japanese maples provided there's enough sunlight. A North American native that is very easy to grow and virtually no-maintenance, just give it well-drained soil and plenty of sun. Very drought tolerant when established and deer are interested.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 3 to 6 inches tall and spreading in a dense mat to 5 feet or more wide, the Golden Carpet Juniper is ideal for use as a groundcover in sunny landscape borders and home foundation plantings. It is excellent as a soil stabilizer for erosion control on slopes or to spill over walls. Also a nice soil cover and spiller in container gardens. We often use it in design as an underplanting for small trees such as Japanese maples and crape myrtles provided it will get a good amount of sunlight. A fine addition to conifer gardens, yellow theme gardens, rock gardens and the Xeriscape (low water needs).
Suggested Spacing: 3 to 4 feet apart for mass plantings; 8 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences
The Gold Carpet Juniper is easy to grow in most any well-drained soil of average to low fertility and full to mostly sun for the brightest foliage color. As with so many other ornamental plants, constantly soggy or wet soil can cause root rot, so make sure the soil in the planting area is well draining. No pruning necessary.
