Discovered in the Netherlands, the Golden Dream Boxwood is a highly colorful and compact shrub that forms a small, rounded ball, reaching only 2 feet tall and wide when fully grown. Like other boxwoods, this one responds well to shearing, allowing it to be maintained at a smaller size over time, making it an excellent candidate for a low formal hedge. It can also be trimmed to form a perfectly shaped globe, square, or pyramid. Being a Buxus microphylla, it sports small leaves that are variegated forest green and generously edged in vibrant golden yellow. It grows well in quite a bit of shade, but the foliage color is brighter yellow with more sun. The Golden Dream Boxwood is ideal as an accent, in a grouping, or as a hedge in landscape borders or around home foundations, and is also perfect for containers.

Its smaller size, at 2 feet tall and wide, makes the Golden Dream Boxwood a perfect choice for smaller garden spaces and pots, planters, and other containers 12 inches or larger in diameter. It responds very well to being sheared into formal shapes, which are a distinctive feature in the landscape, or into low hedges in landscape borders, along walkways, or in home foundation plantings. A fine selection for Asian or English gardens, formal gardens, yellow theme gardens, or container gardens

 

Suggested Spacing:  18 to 24 inches apart for solid hedges;  4 feet or more apart for space between plants

The Golden Dream Boxwood is easy to grow in moist, well-drained soil with average or better fertility, and prefers full sun or partial shade. Once established, it will tolerate some drought but will appreciate supplemental water during extended dry periods. It will tolerate half a day's shade, but the foliage coloration will be brighter golden-yellow when it receives five or more hours of sunlight daily. Like most other boxwoods, it prefers cooler soil. A 1- to 2-inch layer of shredded wood mulch helps create these conditions. Avoid planting it in sites where the soil stays wet or soggy for prolonged periods. It responds very well to shearing for formal hedges and shaping purposes.
