Description

Perfect for small spaces and containers, the Golden Dwarf Hinoki Cypress wows with delicate fans of golden-yellow foliage. It grows slowly over many years to 5 or 6 feet tall and about 3 feet wide at the base. Though it might look more rounded when young, as the plant matures it forms an upright, narrow pyramid. Its smaller size makes it a perfect choice as a focal point specimen in smaller garden spaces or in containers.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing slowly in a pyramidal form 5 to 6 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide at the base, the Golden Dwarf Hinoki Cypress is ideal for use as an eye-catching focal point specimen in small garden spaces and home foundation plantings, and is effective in small groupings in larger spaces. It does very well in containers provided there is good drainage. A fine addition to Asian themed gardens, conifer gardens, yellow theme gardens, and  Xeriscape gardens (low water needs).

Growing Preferences

The Dwarf Golden Hinoki Cypress is easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade. Constantly soggy soil or standing water is problematic. Avoid overwatering. Provide only enough water to keep the soil damp to moist. Established plants are quite drought tolerant and will only require an occasional watering during prolonged periods of drought. Maintenance is minimal. No pruning required except to remove a stray branch that is spoiling the shape of the plant.
