Description
Living up to its name, the Green Pillar Boxwood forms a narrow column of evergreen lustrous green foliage up to10 feet tall and maybe 2 feet wide with no trimming. It can easily be maintained at half that size with an annual spring trimming. Perfect as an exclamation point in small garden spaces or centerpiece in containers, as a hedge where space is limited, or use two to frame an entryway. Green Pillar is cold hardy to -20F and its foliage stays green with no bronzing during winter.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 6 to 10 feet tall and 1 to 2 feet wide depending on pruning, the Green Pillar Boxwood is ideal for use as a single specimen in small garden spaces or centerpiece in container gardens. Use two to frame an entryway or create a narrow hedge where space is limited. Also nice as a vertical accent to fill those narrow spaces in home foundation plantings. A fine addition to formal and topiary gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 15 to 18 inches for solid hedges; 3 feet or more for space between plants
Growing Preferences
The Green Pillar Boxwood is easy to grow in most any moist but well drained soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade. As with so many other plants, a constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic. It prefers mostly sun but will tolerate some shade. We suggest 4 hours or more of direct sunlight per day. In our gardens it has demostrated good drought and heat tolerance and disease and pest resistance.
