Description
'Helen Von Stein' is a low-growing Lamb's Ear cultivar that produces a dense, silver carpet in the landscape or garden. Kids absolutely love to touch the big leaves that look and feel soft and velvety...like a lamb's ear! The grey-green foliage contrasts beautifully with plants that have darker foliage. Helen Von Stein has done amazingly well in our hot and humid summer climate here in north-central Georgia. We have plants in our gardens that are over 10 years old and they haven't melted yet!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 4 to 6 inches tall and spreading to form a patch 24 or more inches wide, Helen Von Stein Lamb's Ear is ideal for use as a small-area groundcover or border in landscape and perennial borders and home foundation plantings that have well-drained soil. Excellent to line a path or walkway. A fine addition to container gardens, rock gardens, and the Xeriscape (low water needs).
Growing Preferences
Helen Von Stein Lamb's Ear is very easy to grow in a moist to dry well-drained soil and full sun to part shade. Well-drained soil is essential! The plant will rot in constantly soggy or wet soils. Morning sun is a must to dry dew from the leaves.
