Description

Coming to the United States from the Isla Nursery in Cambridgeshire, UK, Tanacetum 'Isla Gold' is an amazing dwarf golden tansy with soft-textured, lacy, fern-like, glowing bright golden-yellow foliage that holds its color throughout the season with ample sunlight. We suggest six or more hours of sunlight daily. The foliage tends to become more chartreuse to light lime-green shades with less sunlight, but it's still glowing and beautiful. Some filtered sunlight during the midafternoon hours in hot summer climates of its range will be appreciated. Easy to grow in an average to dry site, Isla Gold forms a well-behaved, clump of deer-resistant foliage to about 18 inches high and 3 feet wide from which rise stems to 3 feet high bearing abundant flat-topped clusters of golden-yellow flowers. These value-like flowers attract butterflies and are excellent for cutting and display in floral arrangements. A carefree beacon in the garden!

Legend says that Tansy leaves mixed in salads help couples conceive. But always do your own research before consuming any part of plants.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing in an upright arching clump to about 18 inches tall with blooms to 3 feet, and 3 feet wide, Isla Gold Tansy is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces and container gardens, or in stunning groupings in larger garden beds and landscape borders. It looks especially nice around rocks, boulders, and garden ponds. A fine addition to rock gardens, perennial gardens, cottage gardens, fern gardens, herb gardens, and xeric gardens (low water needs).

Suggested Spacing:  24 to 30 inches apart for solid groupings; 4 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

Isla Gold Tansy is easy to grow in moist, well-drained soil and full sun to part shade. Five or more hours of sunlight daily is suggested for the brightest foliage color. The foliage will be more golden-yellow with more sun and chartreuse to lime green shades with more shade. Some filtered sun or shade in the afternoon when the sun is most intense in hot summer climates will be appreciated. Constantly soggy or waterlogged soil is problematic. It is drought-tolerant when established but might appreciate occasional supplemental water during extended summer droughts in hot climates. Plant in well-drained soil with the top of the root ball at ground level or slightly above to allow for settling after planting. When planting in containers, choose a pot with a drainage hole(s) at the bottom and use a quality potting soil, potting mix, or a combination of these. It's also a good idea to line the pot's interior with a porous landscape or weed-blocking cloth to prevent the drainage holes from becoming stopped with roots.
