Description
Josee is a prolific blooming Lilac bush that becomes nearly smothered in luxuriant clusters of delightfully fragrant flowers in late spring with rebloom through summer into fall provided there's adequate moisture in the soil. The lavender-pink, tubular flowers are a favorite of butterflies and hummingbirds. A few clusters cut and displayed in a vase can fill a room in the home with heavenly, sweet-smelling aroma. Clothed in velvety green leaves, Josee grows in a rounded mound to about 5 to 6 feet tall and and equally as wide, making her a fine accent in smaller spaces and flowering shrub borders or in groupings or as a natural hedge where space allows. Excellent near patios, decks, porches another outdoor sitting and living spaces where the pretty flower and wonderful fragrance can be enjoyed from close up. Very easy to grow in full sun to part shade and you might be happy to know deer turn their nose up to it. Definitely one that'll always have you and the butterflies and hummingbirds looking forward to its bloom.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing to 5 to 6 feet tall and 5 to 6 feet wide, the Josee Lilac is ideal for use as an accent specimen in small garden spaces, flowering shrub borders and home foundation plantings. Where space allows it can be planted in groupings or as a natural hedge. Perfect as around patios, decks, porches and other outdoor sitting and living spaces where the pretty flowers, fragrance, and butterflies and hummingbirds feeding can be enjoyed from close up. A fine addition to fragrance gardens, pink or purple theme gardens, cut flower gardens, butterfly and hummingbird gardens and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 4 feet apart for solid hedges; 8 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
The Josee Lilac is easy to grow in a moist but well drained soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade. As with other lilacs, it prefers a neutral to alkaline soil pH between 6.5-8.0. Pelletized agricultural lime can be applied to sweeten the soil if needed. Fertilize in early spring with a light application of an organic plant food or slow-release shrub & tree fertilizer. Provide water to maintain a moist soil during summer and this one will rebloom.
