Description

An offspring of the Perennial Plant Association Perennial Plant of the Year in 2007, 'Walkers Low' Catmint, 'Junior Walker' is a super hardy perennial like its parent but in a smaller package, only 18 inches tall in bloom and 30 inches wide. It produces abundant, long-lasting spikes of lovely, soothing lavender-blue flowers that cover the fragrant, compact mound of finely textured, gray-green foliage from late spring through early fall, which the hummingbirds, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators will surely appreciate. Trouble-free, drought-tolerant, and deer- and rabbit-resistant, Junior Walker is an eye-catching, dependable border plant that is exceptionally pretty when cascading over walls or container edges or around boulders in rock gardens or around the garden pond.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 15 to 18 inches tall and 24 to 30 inches tall, Junior Walker Catmint is ideal for use as an accent, in grouping or mass plantings, or as a border along walkways. It is also nice as a solo or mixed with other sun-loving plants in pots, planters, or other containers. Plant it near patios, decks, porches, and other outdoor living areas where the fragrance and the pretty blue flowers can be enjoyed from close up. It is a natural choice for herb gardens and a fine addition to coastal areas, fragrance gardens, blue-theme gardens, and rock gardens.

Growing Preferences

Junior Walker Catmint is easy to grow in most moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and full to mostly sun. Plants will tolerate some shade, but foliage won't be as dense. It will tolerate dry periods but flowers best with moist soil. It does not like constantly soggy or wet soil.
