Description

An exceptionally rare Norway Spruce, Picea abies 'Kamon', is a dwarf version discovered in Europe. It is a slow grower, adding approximately 4 to 6 inches per year in size, forming a broad pyramid that we estimate will reach around 6 feet in height and be equally as wide, which makes it a fine candidate for smaller gardens and containers. It features dense, uniquely colored, needle-like foliage in shades of grayish blue-green. As with other Norway Spruce, Kamon is easy to grow and adaptable, being highly tolerant of cold (-50°F), wind, and drought when established. You might also be happy to know it is deer and rabbit-resistant. It is a highly ornamental specimen or accent plant for the refined landscape, rock and conifer gardens, and home foundation plantings.

Landscape & Garden Uses

The Kamon Dwarf Norway Spruce is ideal for use as an accent plant in smaller garden spaces, conifer gardens, rock gardens, and home foundation plantings. It is also suitable for growing in pots, planters, and other containers.

Suggested Spacing:  Best as a specimen accent, or in spaced groupings at seven or more feet apart

Growing Preferences

The Kamon Dwarf Norway Spruce is easy to grow in a damp to moist but well-drained soil of average fertility. Constantly soggy or wet soils can be problematic, leading to root rot or other harmful plant diseases. So make sure to plant this one in well-drained soil, whether in the ground or in pots. It grows best in full sun; however, in hot summer climates of Zones 7 and 8, it prefers some shade or filtered sun during mid-afternoon when the sunlight is most intense. Once established, water needs are pretty low when growing in the ground. In pots, soil moisture will need to be monitored more closely, especially during summer. When the top two inches of soil are dry, provide water.
