Description

One super-tough but highly attractive evergreen perennial that looks like a grass, the Katrinus Deluxe Lomandra is both heat and cold hardy (Zones 7b-11), full sun and full shade tolerant, as well as drought, salt and disease tolerant! It features a 3.5 feet high and wide mound of pine-green arching and weeping foliage. Abundant, long and narrow wands of perfumed golden flowers in spring add to the overall appeal. Since it's evergreen, there's no need to cut this one back like you might with many other ornamental grasses. It has remained evergreen in our north-central Georgia gardens even down into the teens (Fahrenheit). This is a great low maintenance choice for any application where an ornamental grass is desired, it is healthiest when only provided minimal irrigation.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Katrinus Deluxe3 Lomandra is ideal for use as an accent in smaller landscape spaces and home foundation plantings, as a solo or in combination container gardens, or in groupings or as a hedge or border in larger landscape spaces. Excellent as a soil stabilizer on sunny or shady embankments or slopes. It is exceptionally drought tolerant so works great in combination plantings with palms, yucca, sedums and other plants that have low water needs. A fine addition to ornamental grass gardens, Asian theme gardens, rock gardens, and the Xeriscape (low water needs).

Growing Preferences

Lomandra is exceptionally easy to grow in most any moist to dry well-drained soil of average to low fertility and full sun to full shade. It is exceptionally drought tolerant when established however can tolerate regular irrigation. That said, it doesn't like heavy soils that stay constantly soggy or wet. We've seen no serious pest problems and deer and rabbits turn their nose up to it.
