Description

A highly attractive small and shaggy evergreen conifer that is sure to brighten up the landscape while adding unique texture, 'King's Gold' is dwarf form of Gold False Cypress forms a dense, weeping mound of evergreen, golden-yellow foliage that has proven to be more sun and heat resistant than other golden Chamaecyparis pisifera varieties. At only 4 to 5 feet tall and equally as wide when all grown up, its smaller stature makes it a fine specimen for smaller garden spaces or groupings in larger borders. A low-maintenance plant that is drought tolerant when established and the deer turn their nose up to it.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 4 to 5 feet tall and equally as wide., the King's Gold False Cypress is ideal for use as an eye-catching specimen in smaller garden spaces and home foundation plantings or groupings in larger landscape borders. It's smaller size lends well to containers. A fine addition to conifer gardens, Asian theme gardens, yellow theme gardens and the Xeriscape (low water needs).

Spacing:  3 to 4 feet apart for solid hedge; 8 feet or more apart for space between plants

Cultural Preferences

King's Gold Sawara False Cypress is exceptionally hardy and easy to grow in most any well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun to light shade. Foliage color is more intense with more sun. As with so many other ornamental plants, constantly soggy or wet soil is problematic. Avoid overwatering, providing only enough water to maintain a damp to moist soil. When established King's Gold Cypress is exceptionally drought tolerant and would only need supplemental irrigation during prolonged periods of dry weather. No pruning required to maintain its naturally dense, pyramidal form, though can be sheared lightly for a more formal look.
