Description

Exceptionally heat and cold tolerant to -30 degrees F, the 'Nana' Dwarf Korean Boxwood is an extremely hardy variety that is an excellent choice for both southern and northern climates. A slow grower that might reach 30 inches tall and up to 4 feet wide in 15 years, it responds very well to shearing for hedges or shaping purposes so can be maintained at half its normal, mature size. Its smaller stature makes it an ideal choice for a natural or formal hedge or where a low-growing evergreen shrub is desired in home foundation plantings. Without pruning it adds maybe 2 inches in height per year and forms a dense, rounded mound. Small, ovate, medium green leaves hold color well throughout the year. Its exceptional sun tolerance and small medium green leaves makes it a great substitute for the popular English Boxwood, which is known to suffer from too much sun.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing in a rounded form to 18 to 30 inches tall and 36 to 48 inches wide (depending on pruning), the 'Nana' Korean Dwarf Boxwood is the perfect choice for use as a low formal hedge or border edger in the landscape, or for planting under low windows or to line paths and walkways in home foundation plantings. Excellent for use in pots, planters and other containers with a rim diameter of 12 inches or more. A fine addition to Asian or English gardens and formal gardens. Excellent for bonsai.

Suggested Spacing:  15 to 18 inches apart for solid hedges,  4 to 5 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

'Nana' Korean Dwarf Boxwood is easy to grow when planted right, and in the right spot. It adapts to most soil types and likes full sun or part shade. It prefers a well-drained soil and will only need some water during drought or prolonged periods with no rain. As with many other plants, a constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic.responds very well to shearing for formal hedges and shaping purposes.

Ordered qty. 12 1 gal. Korean Boxwoods. They arrived within 2 weeks in great shape. They were packed 6 per box, supported so they couldn't move, and each pot taped and sealed to maintain high moisture levels and prevent soil leakage. Plants were healthy and had well developed root systems. Extremely satisfied with order.
