Description
This is the single trunk tree form version of the Little Lime Hydrangea, a dwarf selection of the ever-popular Limelight Hydrangea. At maybe half the size of its parent, Little Lime is a perfect fit as a focal point specimen for smaller landscape spaces or containers or to use two to frame an entrance. It forms a rounded canopy atop a single stem, reaching a mature height of maybe 6 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide. With all the appeal of its parent, Little Lime produces abundant flower clusters, emerging a bright lime green in midsummer, aging to white, and then becoming a stunning pink in fall. The flowers are great for cutting and use in fresh or dried floral arrangements.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Excellent for growing in the ground or containers, the Little Lime Hydrangea Tree makes an impressive specimen in small garden spaces and home foundation plantings, or use two to frame an entrance. A fine addition to hydrangea gardens, perennial gardens, cottage gardens, and cut flower gardens.
Spacing: Best as a specimen or use two to frame an entrance
Growing Preferences
The Little Lime Hydrangea can take the heat at our location in mid-Georgia, but is also exceptionally cold hardy, withstanding even the coldest winter temperatures in the North. It is easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility. While it will tolerate full sun in the North, in zones 7 and 8 of the South it will prefer some filtered sun or shade during the hottest afternoon hours when the sun is most intense. For best flowering, we suggest 5 hours or more of sunlight daily. USDA Zones: 3a-8b Find Your Zone
Note: Little Lime is a Hydrangea paniculata species that produces flowers from buds formed on "new wood" (the current season's growth). This means you don't want to prune them in late spring or summer when they're preparing to bloom.
