Description

Mandarin Honeysuckle is a super-hardy free flowering deciduous vine that produces abundant clusters of showy, orange trumpet-shape flowers with golden throats and bright golden-yellow reflexed petals. The flowers begin emerging in spring and continue well into fall drawing the attention of the hummingbirds. The hummingbirds love them! Clusters of bright red berries follow the flowers adding even more to the overall appeal of this spectacular vine. It is the only vine we know of that produces deep purplish, wine color new leaves, which mature to a glossy-blue-green.

This vine does not cling to walls and other surfaces, however, it grow up and on just about anything that provides its vines something to twine around. If you don't have a trellis, pergola, arch or other structure suitable for this vine to grow on, it can also be grown as an attractive mounding shrub or very pretty groundcover.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing up to 25 feet in length or height, the Mandarin orange Honeysuckle vine is ideal for use to climb along the top of fences, on a trellis, on a pole, post or mailbox, over an arch, arbor or pergola, or any other structure that will provide something for the vines to twine around. A fine addition to hummingbird gardens, orange theme gardens and cottage gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  3 to 6 feet apart to cover fences or other structures

Growing Preferences

Mandarin Honeysuckle is easily grown in average, moist but well-drained soils and full sun to light shade. The vine produces more flowers and is more vigorous in full sun. We suggest at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. It is quite drought tolerant when established and hardy in USDA Zones 4a-9b  Find Your Zone
