Description
If you want to enhance the sensory appeal of your summer garden, it doesn't get much better than Confederate Jasmine vines, also known as Star Jasmine. Manda's is the rare, yellow-flowering selection of the species. Beginning in early summer, abundant clusters of 5-petaled, star-shaped flowers in shades of soft to yellow will fill the garden with a sweet aroma reminiscent of orange blossoms. The petals are a little wider than those on the flowers of the species. Climbing up to 15 feet, depending on the height of the support structure, as with its white-flowering cousins, Manda's Yellow is a fast-growing vine with lustrous, dark green evergreen foliage perfect for growing on a fence, pergola, trellis, or any other structure its vines can twine around. It is hardy outdoors in USDA Zones 7b-10b when growing in the ground.
Trachelospermum jasmonoides 'Mandaianum' is also known by the common name of Star of Toscana Jasmine
Landscape & Garden Uses
With vines growing 10 feet or more long and 3 to 4 feet wide, Confederate Jasmine is an ideal selection for use to grow on a fence, pergola, rail, post, arch, trellis, large obelisk, or any other structure that might benefit from or support the vine. It can also be used as a ground cover for slopes or banks, where it can sprawl and naturalize, or to climb into smaller trees. It is a fine addition to fragrance gardens, yellow gardens, Asian gardens, and cottage gardens.
Spacing Recommendations: 2 to 4 feet apart to cover fences
Growing Preferences
Manda's Yellow Star Jasmine is easy to grow in moist, well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade. Four hours of sunlight daily is recommended for the heaviest flowering. It is quite drought-tolerant when established.
