Description

A spectacular hardy perennial with incredible flower power, the Mango Sunrise Coneflower features abundant, 4-inch diameter coneflowers with striking mango-yellow petals surrounding a bronze-red center cone. Butterflies, beneficial pollinators, and hummingbirds love the flowers, and birds love the seeds. The long-lasting flowers are displayed on sturdy stems that rise to 24 inches tall and are great for cutting and display in a vase or flower arrangement. As with other versions of our North American native coneflowers, this one is an easy-to-grow, low-maintenance, hardy perennial that is drought tolerant when established, and which deer tend to turn their nose up at.

Landscape & Garden Uses

At 18 to 24 inches tall and 15 to 18 inches wide, the Mango Sunrise Coneflower is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces and containers or grouped in sunny to lightly shaded perennial and woodland borders. It is a fine addition to butterfly gardens, cut flower gardens, cottage gardens, wildflower gardens, yellow-themed gardens, and meadow gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  15 to 18 inches apart for groupings or mass plantings; 3 or more feet apart for space between plants.

Growing Preferences

Mango Sunrise Coneflower is an easy-to-grow and adaptable plant that is tolerant of drought, heat, humidity, and poor soil. It prefers a moist to somewhat dry and well-drained soil of average fertility, but will tolerate low fertility soils. It will flower heavily in full sun, but also blooms quite well in part shade. We suggest at least 5 hours of direct sunlight daily for the best overall performance. Spent flowers can be removed through the long bloom season. Leave a few flowers on the plant towards the end of the season, and birds will have seeds to eat during winter.
