Description

A selection from the Badlands of western North Dakota, 'Medora' is an upright Juniper sporting colorful blue-green foliage on a naturally narrow, pyramidal column that holds its form well with little to no pruning. This makes it an an excellent vertical accent useful as a specimen, for framing corners or entryways, or as a low maintenance hedge or screen. Also perfect for an outdoor Christmas tree! This very attractive and durable evergreen tolerates heat, cold, drought, blazing sun, wind, snow load and even seacoast exposure.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 10 to 15 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide at maturity, the Medora Juniper is ideal for use as an accent, to frame corners in home foundation plantings, to frame entryways, in groupings, or as a low-maintenance hedge or privacy screen. It shears well so is also suitable for spiral and poodle tier topiary and as an outdoor Christmas tree. A fine addition to the conifer garden, rock garden, blue theme garden, and Xeriscape (low water needs).

Spacing:  4' for solid hedges and privacy screens;  8' or more for space between plants

Growing Preferences

The Medora Juniper grows best in a well-drained soil and as much sun as you can give it. It is exceptionally low maintenance and drought tolerant when establish. Constantly soggy or wet soil is problematic. No trimming needed to maintain its dense, pyramidal columnar form, though it can be sheared a couple times a year for a more formal shape, topiary or outdoor Christmas tree.
