Description
An absolutely magical and long-lived Helleborus selection for your shade garden, the long-lasting, outward-facing flowers of 'Merlin' begin opening in February a medium pink shade gradually intensifying in color over the flowering season ending up a truly indescribable deep dusky cranberry-pink. A sturdy hybrid bred in Germany by Josef Heuger, Merlin offers the same leathery dark green leaves and loads of buds and blooms as others in the Helleborus Gold Collection.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a dense mound 102 to 15 inches tall and up to 30 inches wide, Merlin Helleborus is ideal for use as an accent in small garden spaces and containers or in groupings or as a border along walkways and paths. The perfect plant to grow under large shade trees, decks, covered porches and any other shady location. Don't think you have any shade? Look on the east side of your home. A fine addition to shade and woodland gardens, pink theme gardens, winter gardens, and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 18 to 24 inches apart for mass plantings; 48 inches or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences
Merlin Helleborus is very easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and part shade to shade. It is perfect for planting under large shade trees, tall decks and other shady structures where not much sun shines. That said, morning or evening sun or all-day filtered sun is fine. Avoid direct afternoon sun. Plant with the top of the root ball even with ground level. Care and maintenance are minimal. If needed, we remove any damaged or discolored foliage in mid winter before the flowers emerge. Feed in spring with an organic plant food.
