Description
Mirror Leaf Sweet Viburnum gets its name from its lustrous leaves and wonderfully fragrant flowers. It is a fast grower forming a dense stately pyramid to 15 feet tall and 8 feet wide, which makes it ideal for use as a specimen or for privacy screens and hedges, where its presence will not go unnoticed. Its bold, magnolia-like deep green leaves combine magnificently with cypress and other conifers, and other evergreen shrubs and trees. Also perfect for framing corners of homes and entryways. The dark foliage is an excellent backdrop to the large and abundant clusters of sweetly fragrant creamy white spring flowers which are followed by clusters of bright red berries in summer that persist in the fall. Butterflies and other beneficial pollinators enjoy the flowers and the birds will thank you for the berries. Easy to grow and drought tolerant, deer, pest, heat and humidity resistant, Mirror Leaf Viburnum is an easy-to-grow, tough but elegant addition to any landscape where it will grow. Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 10 to 15 tall and 6 to 8 feet wide, the Mirror Leaf Sweet Viburnum is ideal for use as an attractive evergreen specimen or in privacy screen plantings where it's lustrous large leaves contrast well with coniferous evergreens and many other types of plants and trees. Also excellent to frame the corners of homes and other structures. can be grown as a large shrub or lower branches can be removed to form a very attractive small tree. A fine addition to Viburnum gardens, fragrance gardens, white theme gardens, wildlife gardens, and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 6 to 7 feet apart for solid hedge; 14 feet or more apart for space between plants.
Growing Preferences
The Mirror Leaf Sweet Viburnum is very easy to grow in most any moist but well drained soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade. It is quite drought tolerant when established and heat and humidity don't phase it. As with so many other ornamental plants it does not like constantly wet or waterlogged soil wet conditions. We've seen no serious pest or disease problems. Deer haven't touched it in our gardens. For best flowering, at least 5 hours of direct sunlight per day is suggested. Responds very well to pruning for shaping and size control. Prune as needed immediately after flowering.
