Description
Miss Manners Obedient Plant is one with flowers that will obey your command. You can move or twist a flower with your finger, which will stay in that position, hence the common name. It is a robust and easy-to-grow North American native perennial plant that grows almost anywhere, from Quebec to Florida to New Mexico. It forms an upright, well-behaved, non-spreading clump up to 30 inches tall and wide with stems clothed in lance-shaped, finely toothed, deep green leaves. From early to midsummer through early fall, at the tips of every stem are 6-8" spikes similar in appearance to snapdragons bearing 1" tubular, pure-white, two-lipped flowers that the hummingbirds, butterflies, and beneficial pollinators will immensely appreciate and thank you for. The flowers are excellent for cutting and display in flower arrangements.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 3 to 4 feet tall in an upright clump 1 to 2 feet wide, the Miss Manners Obedient Plant is ideal for use in the middle of the border in perennial and cut flower gardens or along paths and walkways. It is also a fine addition to butterfly, pollinator, hummingbird, cottage, cut flower, white-themed, prairie, meadow, and wildflower gardens.
Growing Preferences
Miss Manners Obedient Plant is easy to grow in moist, well-drained soil with average to low fertility and full to mostly sun. Some light shade is tolerated, but we suggest at least 6 hours of direct sunlight for best flowering and overall performance. Removing spent flower spikes after the first bloom cycle encourages a heavier rebloom.
