Description
Winner of a Gold Medal, the President’s Trophy for the 'Best New Rose of the Year', and the Henry Edland Medal at the Royal National Rose Society for the 'Best Scented Rose', the 'Molineaux' English Shrub Rose provides outstanding sensory appeal throughout the season with both wonderful color and fragrance. Almost continuously from spring to the first frost in fall, it features abundant, many-petaled, golden rosette blooms tinged with orange at first quickly becoming a rich yellow. The blooms have a musky Tea Rose scent and are excellent for cutting and use in floral arrangements. Very disease resistant and hardy, handling the cold and heat and humidity in USDA Zones 5 through 11, Molineux forms a compact bushy shrub with an upright habit to 4 feet tall and 3 feet wide, which makes for a good fit in sunny to partially shaded smaller garden beds, or in containers that can be situated on or around patios and other outdoor sitting areas where the sunny flowers and wonderful fragrance can be enjoyed from close up.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 3 to 4 feet tall and nearly wide, the Molineax English Shrub Rose is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings or as a hedge in sunny to partially shaded borders. Its smaller stature makes for a good fit in containers that can be situated on or around patios, decks and around other outdoor sitting and living spaces. A fine addition to cottage gardens, yellow and gold theme gardens, cutting gardens, antique and old-fashioned gardens, and fragrance and sensory gardens.
Growing Preferences
The Molineux English Shrub Rose is easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average or above average fertility and full to mostly sun for the best flowering. That said, some filtered sun during the midafternoon hours is okay. As with all other roses, morning sun is a must to dry dew from the leaves. Flowering will be best if the plant receives at least 5 hours of direct sun during the day.
