Description

An absolutely beautiful Robin Hill Hybrid, the 'Nancy of Robin Hill' Azalea displays abundant clusters of large, 3.5 inch diameter semi-double to double flowers with soft pink petals adorned with deep red freckles. Breathtaking in bloom when the flowers nearly cover the foliage over an extended period in mid to late spring. With dense, lush evergreen foliage and a spreading habit to 2 to 2.5 feet tall and maybe 4 to 5 feet wide over time, Nancy of Robin Hill makes for a fine accent in smaller garden spaces and containers or as a groundcover or low border in partially to fully shaded landscape or woodland borders.

A group of evergreen azaleas developed by Robert Gartrell of New Jersey, Robin Hill Hybrids combine the large flowers of tender azalea hybrids with the cold-tolerance of hardy hybrids.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 2 to 3 feet tall with a spreading habit 4 to 5 feet wide over time, the Nancy of Robin Hill Azalea is ideal for use as a specimen in small garden spaces, mixed flowering shrub borders and containers, or in groupings or as a low border in the partially shaded to shade landscape or woodland border. A hardy evergreen selection we also suggest for use in home foundation plantings. A fine addition to Asian-theme gardens, Azalea and Rhododendron gardens, pink theme gardens, cottage gardens and  woodland gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  3 feet apart for solid hedges;  6 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

Evergreen Azaleas are easy to grow when planted right and in the right spot. They prefer a moist but well-drained and acidic soil that is rich in organic matter and part sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sun is ideal. Moderate drought tolerance when established.
