Description

A diminutive Catmint to maybe 12 inches tall and wide but with huge flower clusters, 'Neptune' features a sea of purple-blue flowers from late spring through early fall. The flowers attract the butterflies and beneficial pollinators as well as hummingbirds, and its aromatic foliage attracts cats, hence the name. That said, none of our cats have ever bothered the plant, but they do like to nap beside it. It forms a tidy clump that is perfect for use in containers and smaller gardens spaces where it won't take over, or in groupings or as a border where space allows. Neptune Catmint is long-lived, easy to care for, and the deer and rabbits turn their nose up. It is drought tolerant when established and thrives in blazing sun to part shade.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 8 to 14 inches tall and 8 to 10 inches wide, the Neptune Catmint is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces, in containers, or in groupings or as a border or hedge in gardens beds and along paths and walkways. Excellent around patios and other outdoors living spaces where the fragrance, the pretty flowers, and the butterflies and hummingbirds it attracts can be enjoyed from close up. A natural choice for herb gardens and a fine addition to perennials gardens, cottage gardens, butterfly and hummingbird gardens, beneficial pollinator gardens, coastal areas, fragrance gardens, blue theme gardens and rock gardens.

Growing Preferences

The Neptune Catmint is easy to grow in most any somewhat loose and moist to somewhat dry soil of average fertility and full to mostly sun. Plants will tolerate some shade but foliage won't be as dense. We suggest at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. It will tolerate dry periods, but flowers best with a moist soil. Does not like constantly soggy or wet soil. Deaheading spent flowers will encourage quicker rebloom and extend the flowering season.
