Description

One of the finest hardy Agapanthus available, ‘Northern Star’ lives up to it's name with star quality and cold hardiness as far north as USDA Zone 6! Abundant flowering at a young age, it forms a clumps of green strap-like leaves from which rise tall sturdy stems up to 3 feet high topped with large rounded clusters of blue-violet star-shaped flowers. Blooms come from early summer to late summer and you'll be happy to know they attract butterflies and hummingbirds and are self cleaning. An excellent choice providing a tropical flair in perennial borders or as solitary or mixed with other plants in container gardens.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Northern Star Agapanthus is ideal for use in garden beds or container gardens. Ideal for use as an accent or in small garden spaces or in groupings in larger spaces and home foundation plantings. Also great as a solo or accent or centerpiece in combination container gardens. A fine addition to perennial gardens, rock gardens, blue theme gardens, and tropical-look gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  18 inches apart for mass plantings; 3 feet apart or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

Agapanthus is easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade. The more sun the better for best flowering. When established, plants are quite drought tolerant requiring supplemental irrigation only during prolonged periods of severe drought. Constantly soggy or wet soils are problematic. Lime Agapanthus annually to keep them blooming heavy year after year!
