Description
A lovely rose with unusual cupped flowers opening to a soft yellow transitioning to cream and a pleasant myrrh fragrance, the 'Nye Bevan' English Shrub Rose will uplift spirits on even the gloomiest day. A single or double row of outer petals surrounds abundant scallop-shaped, incurved petals around a central boss of golden stamens, creating a soft, airy appearance. The blooms form in well-spaced sprays against medium-green, semi-glossy foliage. After the first flush of blooms, the spent flowers can be deadheaded to encourage a heavier rebloom. Nye Bevan forms a bushy, upright rounded shrub 3 to 3.5 feet tall and equally as wide, which makes for a good fit in sunny to partially shaded smaller garden beds, or in containers that can be situated on or around patios and other outdoor sitting areas where the sunny flowers and wonderful fragrance can be enjoyed from close up.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing to 3.5 feet tall and equally as wide, the Nye Bevan English Shrub Rose is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings, or as a hedge in sunny to partially shaded borders. Its smaller stature makes it a good fit in containers that can be situated on or around patios, decks, and other outdoor sitting and living spaces. It is a fine addition to cottage gardens, yellow theme gardens, cutting gardens, antique and old-fashioned gardens, and fragrance and sensory gardens.
Growing Preferences
The Ny Bevan English Shrub Rose is easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average or above average fertility and full sun to part shade for the best flowering. Like all other roses, the morning sun is a must to dry dew from the leaves. Flowering will be best if the plant receives at least 5 hours of direct sun during the day. We suggest removing spent flowers to encourage rebloom.
