Description

The Palibin Lilac is a dwarf Korean selection adored for its abundant panicles of wonderfully fragrant, soft lavender-purple flowers that open from dark violet buds that nearly smother the shrub in late spring to early summer. This one blooms late enough in spring that all the butterflies will thank you for planting it. The flowers are also excellent for cutting and display in your favorite vase. The small heart-shaped leaves emerge burgundy in early spring turning to dark green as they mature. At 3 to 4 feet tall and wide, Palibin is an excellent choice for smaller garden spaces and pots or in groupings or as a hedge where space will allow.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 3 to 4 feet tall and equally as wide, the Palibin Lilac is ideal for use as a specimen in smaller garden spaces and pots or in groupings or as a hedge in larger landscape borders. Perfect near patios, decks, porches and other outdoor living spaces where the pretty flowers and delicious fragrance can be enjoyed from close up. A fine addition to fragrance and sensory gardens, cottage gardens, cut flower gardens or purple theme gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  3.5 feet for solid hedges and grouping;  7 feet apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

Plant your Palibin Lilac in a moist but well drained soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade. It prefers a pH close to neutral (6.5 to 7.5). Add pelletized lime if your soil is extremely acid. Fertilize in early spring with a light application of an organic plant food or slow-release shrub & tree type fertilizer. Prune as desired for shaping purposes or for size control after bloom in spring.
