Description
A cute little evergreen that fits perfectly in small garden spaces and container gardens, the Pancake Arborvitae is a dwarf, slow-growing shrub with a distinctive mounding habit and soft textured foliage. It features deep sage green foliage throughout the warm season that turns to a blue during the cool season.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing only 12 to 18 inches tall and 3 feet wide, the Pancake Arborvitae is great for use as a specimen, in groupings, or as a low maintenance low hedge in sunny landscape borders. Its smaller stature makes if a perfect choice for pots, planters and other containers. A fine addition to conifer gardens, rock gardens and formal gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 18 to 24 inches apart for solid hedge; 4 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Arborvitae are very easy to grow and care for. They are adaptable to many soil types including red clay and like full sun to part shade. They prefer a moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and don't like an overly dry site. As with so many other ornamental plants, constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic. Maintenance is minimal with very little if any pruning ever required.
