Description

Discovered by Chengdu Nursery growing in the wild of Sichuan, and extremely rare in the United States, Camellia parvilimba is a winter bloomer (Jan to Feb) producing an abundance of small, trumpet-shaped fragrant flowers with white petals surrounding golden stamens. The new leaves emerge scarlet red and turn to a lustrous dark olive-green. The leaves are perhaps the smallest of any camellia, providing fine texture in the garden. As camellias go, it is a dwarf growing to about 3 to 4 feet tall and equally as wide with an upright spreading habit. Everything about this camellia is small compared to its larger growing cousins, which makes it a perfect fit for smaller garden spaces where it's sure to be a conversation piece!

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 3 to 4 feet tall and equally as wide, Camellia parvilimba is ideal for use as a specimen or in groupings in partially shaded garden beds. A fine addition to camellia gardens, white theme gardens, Asian gardens, cottage gardens, cut flower gardens and woodland borders. Also suitable for containers.

Growing Preferences

Camellia adapt well to various soil types however prefer a moist but well-drained acidic soil that is rich in organic matter. Constantly soggy soil is a slow killer. In general, Camellia grows and blooms better in partial shade with some shelter from the hot afternoon sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sunlight is perfect. All-day filtered sun is fine.
